Tech App Message Center: Chats Tab

The Message Center brings chat directly into the Meld Technician App, allowing technicians to review and respond to Meld conversations without leaving the app. It keeps Meld-related communication in the workflow technicians already use, making messages easier to find and respond to.

Audience: Technicians using the Meld Technician App

Update the App Through Your App Store

The Chats tab is available in the bottom navigation between All Melds and Profile. A blue dot on the Chats icon indicates unread activity.

From the Chats tab, technicians can view conversations they have access to, filter the conversation list, open a thread, review Meld context, and reply without leaving the app.

Chats list

The Chats list displays Meld conversations the technician is part of, with the most recently active conversations shown first. This makes newer and active conversations easier to find.

Quick filters

Three filter options appear at the top of the Chats list. Selecting a filter narrows the conversations displayed, and the selected filter is highlighted.

FilterWhat it shows
AssignedConversations for Melds the technician is assigned to. This is the default view.
@MentionsConversations where the technician was directly mentioned. If there are no matching conversations, the list displays No chats yet.
AllAll Meld conversations the technician has access to.

Unread toggle

An Unread toggle is available for each filter. Turn it on to display only conversations containing unread messages.

What each conversation row includes

  • Property or address: Displayed above the Meld title in gray text.
  • Meld title: The issue name appears in bold. Longer titles may be shortened with an ellipsis.
  • Message preview: Displays the most recent message, including the sender and a short preview.
  • Timestamp: Displays the time for activity from today, Yesterday, or a date for older activity.
  • Unread count badge: A blue badge indicates the number of unread messages in the conversation.

Selecting a conversation opens the chat detail view for that Meld.

Chat detail view

Opening a conversation displays the full message thread for a Meld, including previous messages and the tools needed to send a reply.

Header actions

  • Back: Returns to the Chats list.
  • Meld ID: Appears as the title of the conversation.
  • View Meld: Opens a preview of the associated Meld without leaving the conversation.

Message thread

Each message displays the sender's avatar, name, role, timestamp, and visibility information so technicians can see who sent the message and who can view it.

Day separators, such as Today at 7:52 AM, help organize the conversation by date.

Composer and message visibility

At the bottom of the conversation, technicians can write and send a reply.

Before sending, the visibility selector displays who can view the message. Technicians can change the audience when needed.

  • Visibility selector: Select who can view the message, such as managers, residents, or vendors.
  • Send: Posts the message to the conversation using the selected visibility.

Composer tools

  1. Message templates: Opens a searchable list of pre-written responses, such as No Heat, Owner approved, please schedule, or Message to Resident on Missing Photos.
  2. AI Assistant: Rewrites the current draft using the selected tone and length. Available tone options include Professional, Friendly, and Casual, with length options such as Short or Medium. The technician can apply the rewrite or cancel without changing the original draft.
  3. Send: Sends the completed message to the conversation.

View Meld preview

Selecting View Meld from the chat header opens a bottom-sheet preview containing key information about the Meld, allowing technicians to review important details without leaving the conversation.

The preview includes:

  • Status: Displays the current Meld status and priority.
  • Meld ID and title: Identifies the Meld.
  • Schedule: Displays the scheduled date and time or Not Scheduled.
  • Location: Displays the full property address.
  • Category and work type: Displays information such as Heating/AC and Repair.
  • Map: Opens the location in Google Maps for navigation.
  • View Meld Details: Opens the full Meld record.
